Janice:We are building ourselves back up. We have great social programming and all that, but I think teachers need to know our children are hurting and it may just be they see it in somebody else. They have a great life but they see it in friends, cousins, aunties and uncles. And their personal home life might be wonderful. But they have experienced some kind of trauma somewhere. There are traumatized children whose parents didn’t take care of them or are drug addicts. … I think teachers need to understand that, but they also need to understand that we’re very prideful people who are really grounded in our cultural ways, our Longhouse traditions and church traditions also.
